CANVASSERS' TRICKS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Your leader in to-night's " Star " comes not a moment too soon. My wife was victimised a few days ago by one of the class you mention. In this case the'"glib" one was unsuccessful in extracting the money, but obtained the signature to a form which he omitted to explain in any way. As your correspondent mentioned in Saturday's "Star," the story told by the canvasser was elaborated with a. wealth of frill of a. lying nature. In consequence I returned the article and informed them 1 did not want it. I was promptly told that the amount would be sued for. To-day J received a letter from the firm in decidedly pointed terms staling that the amount would be sued for forthwith. The community owe yon a debt of thanks for having taken this matter up, and it is to be hoped you will not let it drop until the authorities take some action. The facts mentioned above arc the experience of quite a number I know, and in my locality the "good work'' is still proceeding apace. —I am, etc., NEARLY BITTEN. August 13. 1917.
