WAIMAIRI. The "VCai'maiii County Council met peelerday: present—Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman), W. P. Spencer. R. "W. Eawke, S. Bullock. T. D. Boag. G. E. Curry, J. P. W. Lee, end J. Fitzpatrick. It was decided to endorso tho action of the Mount Herbert Council. Permission was granted the Christc/mrch Beautifying Association to improve the bank of the Avon River opposite Allen's mill. The Chrifitclmrch Returned Soldiers' Association wrote inquiring whether members of the New Zealand. Expeditionary Fprces wero exempt'from paying rates in'the county. It was'decided to replv that each case would be considered on its merits. It was.agreed, that the chairman of the council should go to Wellington to interview tho Minister of Finance in regard to a loan for the supply of electricity for outlying districts.

TAWERA. . The Ta-wera County Council met on Tuesday; present—Messrs? Seymour .(chairman), Evens, M'Alpine, Millar, Milliken and Rutled 50. . ~..■-.■; Tho Mount. Herbert County Council forwarded a copy of a. resolution passed by that body advocating an amondment to the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act, enabling; these boards.to. borrow monoy for. capital expenditure. The resolution was approved, but it was thought that: preat .care..--would be needed to provide safeguards against overborrowing. The secretary of the' Hospital Board wrote stating that two cases of infectious disease had been reported from the county. The-.council was informed tha.t .both paiients. were now convalescent. , It was reported that the road between Avqca and Craigieburn was in a dangerous state owingr to two washouts, at Stevens's Creek. It was decided to have the road made good and a.quantity".of willows planted. An estimate of the probable expenditure far. the current year. was submitted to. the council and it was agreed to levy a general rate of one penny in the pound.
