AVIATION.
FLYING GROUND OFEN TO PUBLIC. The decision of the directors of the Canterbury Aviation Company to throw the flying grounds at Sookbiira open fcr inspection to-day created the liveliest interest among a very large number of citizens and race visitors to town, and. there was a very large gathering of spectators at the grounds this afternon. Very widespread interest, had been evinced in the event, in view of promised nights by Mr C. M. Hill, the company's aviator instructor. Unfortunately the wind, uhioli had ben strong all" the morning, had. increased to almost a gale at midday, and there was li':tl ft prospect, of a. flight. There was a great deal more to see, however than the actual flying, and the crounds, hangars, and aeroplanes were the object, of great interest, especia ly the aeroplane built ou the grounds by Mr J. G. Mackie, The company's engineer. His locally-built propeller, a. nice piece of workmanship, was also the subject of much compliment.
