HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.

The new vaudevillo and revue programme presented hv tho Fuller management at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday attracted large audiences to both matinee and and evening performances. The principal attraction in tho first half of the entertainment, which was devoted to vaudeville, was the extraordinary turn presented by the " Daredevil Stnigs, : ' in their act entitled " Th 0 Globo of Death." Tho glob© in question proved to be a structure of latticed steel, within which tho performers rode bicycles at all sort ofl angles, including the horizontal. The big thrill occurred when a. high-powered motor-cyclo was ridden round the circular cage at high speed, tho male perormer eventually "looping the loop" half a dozon times in succession, running at high speed. The turn, which was a comparatively short one, contained probably more potentialities of sudden and violent death to the minute than any act of the sensational order hitherto staged in this citv. Miss Violet Trevonyon, a ccomedienno who lias already made herself a great favourite with Christchurch audiences, appeared m new and charming frocks, and sang now and tuneful songs with great success. She wa.s recalled many times, and the audienco wero lath to let her go. Elsie Morris, a dancer of more than ordinary abilitv, prefaced a. very neat exhibition of * step-dancing with ballads of a catchv and attractive character. Laurence Johnston, a ventriloquist a bit above the ordinary in accomplishments, gave the audienco a very enjoyable quarter of an hour. Walter Johnson's Musical Rqvuo Company provided the second half of tho programme, staging a new and capahlyproduced revue, "Tho Gramaphone UirJs, in threo scenes. Tho big hit of tho production was a startling " Jin .liteju Dance," by Ernest; Lashbrook and Mis.4 Lyd'ia Game, while Miss Car no also scored in a series of impersonations of popular favourites. Oils Franks, in a. Hebrew character of tho typo in which ho is most sueeo'ssrr.l, and "Walter Johnson, as an English peer, were also particularly successful in their musical cohtriutions. Iho ballets were olevery arranged, and tho staging was throughout of a .'liHi order of merit, Mention should also bo made of the effective and onjovablo music of the orchestra, whoso items included a drum solo, *' By Heck!" and a xylophone solo, " Temptation Rag." by Mr Clarence Crawford, a young and exceptionally talented member of the band, who is to don khaki next! week, and who is this week making "positively his last appearance" until such time as the fortunes of war allow him to return to civilian society.
