LIEUTENANT J. G. KINVIG. Second-Lieutenant James _ Gordon Kinvig, reported killed in action, was the second son of Mr R. C. Kinvig, o! tho firm of .Messrs Reynolds and Kinvig, , warehousemen, of Christchurch and Wellington. Socond-Lieutennnt Kinvig was born in Christchurch and educated at. Woolston and tho Boys High School. Ho played for both tho senior teams in football and ciickot' at the Boys' High School. Ho was onei of the best athletes tho Christchurch Boys' High School has yet produced. In 1901, when the Boys'' High School unexpectedly turned the tables on Christ's College, ho gave a display at full-back that in still spoken of as one of the finest custodian efforts seen in Canterbury, and in the following year, when College wer 0 beaten by tho school by 41 points to nil, ho proved a tower of strength to tlio team at centl'o three-quarter. He was for two or tlirco years one of the best all-round cricketers in tho School s eleven. Later ho removed to Wellington, entering his lather's business. Ho became a member of the Oriental Football Club, and quickly sprang into prominence, and was soon in the provincial representative team, ultimately gaining North Island and finally New Zealand honours. Ho was also one of tho mainstays of the Wellington representative cricket team, being a good bat, a firstclass medium paced left-hand bowler, and a fine field. For two years prior to the war he was in Australia, gaming commercial knowledge, but on the outbreak of hostilities ho returned to New Zealand and enlisted in Wellington, leaving as a sergeant in the Twelfth Reinforcement's. He received his commission a few weeks ago. His death will bo lamented by a wide circle of friends in both Islands of New Zealand and Australia. '
