A NURSE'S STORY.

" Nursing Adventures,'' published by Mr I leiiiemann. i.s an anonymous account, of what an energetic. Scottish girl saw and did when she went to tho front a.s a F.A.N.Y. By the way, as the full name is nowhere given, everybody cnnin-oted with the publication apparently takes it for granted that tho world knows for what those initials stand. Present writer makes a shot at it as Field Ambulance. Nursing Yeomanry, but he admits he is pu/z/Jed. However, that does not affect the interesting quality of Miss " Alton's" story. She and her mates faced many difficulties and dangers in their efforts to assist in the kindly and necessary work of caring for the wounded and bringing some comfort into the. lives of the men in the treiieh'es. Starting in September, 1914, at first the members of tho F.A.N.Y. went with motor ambulances and first-aid and comforts into the firing line, now they are, working at base hospitals and "running" a, canteen for convalescents in France. "Anon" was in Polgium in the early days, saw tho bombardment and evacuation of Antwerp, remained behind tho army, looking after n. dying British officer, was at Malines, Hwheront, Ghent., came to Calais, tells how bravo men were treated there, and gives many interesting sidelights on war. " Aiion '' found official red-tape a drawback. So do most people who attempt to go where they are, not invited, and, possibly, not wanted. There must be rules, and those, rules must be obeyed, or anarchy and inefficiency are the results. In this particular instance, the F.A.N.Y. women apparently had a "pull" at, hoaduun.rte.rs. and evidently justified their "pull" by their work. They did bravely in a world of men where conventions are unknown, and where humanity is the only etiquette.
