DEFENCE NOTES.

(By SNIPER.) The parados of tho J.orritonnl units this week have boon very satisfactory. On Monday and Tuesday the attendances of the Ist (Canterbury) Regiment were pood. No. 1 Company N.Z.F.E. had an excellent, attendance on Tuesday. The work wa? well carried out. and most interesting. Tile attendance of the rifle clubs on Tuesday nichi was good. The physical cuktire work is greatly appreciated by the unir. which i.= now under the infitruerorsliip of Staff-Sergeant-Major R. Brr.nt. No. L' Divi ionai Swnnl Company held itr* u-.ti:il weekly ;>arade on Wednesday witli a very good art-nuance. The electrical section did electrical work under Lieutenant M"Donald. The signalling section was given a lecture by Lieutenant Coombes.

The Senior Cadet parades thi.s have been exceptionally good. The general hearing of the lady, has improved greatly, and the junior boys are showing great, interest in their work. Considering this is their first year of training the energy of the lads, coupled with their keenness, is very noteworthy.

The X.0.0.'s Class is comprised o!" all tho non-commissioned officers of tho Senior Cadet companies, who are in duty bound to attend on Saturday evenings to enable them to become fully proficient and capable of framing" their own units. Tho atiiendauco generally is very good. On Saturday last the attendance was 130. These lads are extremely smart and keen in all ihloir work, which is very pleasing to watch, as is evidenced from tho number of spectators one sees- in the barracks and, in fact, on all occasions of Senior Cadet parades.

An instructional cam]) will be ;,eld at Purau for officers and X.C.O.'s attending the secondary schools, Canterbury District.
