MILK DELIVERY.

THE BLOCK SYSTEM. m scrssT ox at spr eydon .BOROUGH COUNCIL. At last night's meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council a deputation of dairymen, headed by Mr H. Bliss, waited on the council with regard to the proposed block system of delivering milk. Mr Bliss read the proposals to the council. In answer to questions he said thn.fc the dairies would be under the supervision ot the Health Department, and that he was of the opinion that, the price of milk in winter might be reduced by a penny a. quart. OruneiHor A. Manhiro asked whether people owning a cow or two and supplying milk to neighbours, would he considered when the blocks were, defined.

Mr Bliss replied in the affirmative. Councillor E. Q'Rourke asked the de. pni/uion if he v.'ould bo served with milk in the winter time if he bought liis milk from a neighbour in the summer time. 7\ir Bliss: Yea. The Mayor (Mr W. TT. Winsor), said that the council could not; expect to regulate the price of milk. Dairymen would not be satisfied with that. If the scheme was not adopted now, it may he shelved. He was of tho opinion that the scheme should be taken up. Councillor A. E. Brewer asked if the milk vendor in charge of a block would he prepared to take the milk of the man who bad a cow of liis own.

Mr Bliss replied that it might not be possible to take it in the summer, but in the winter the milk could always be disposed of.

In answer to the Mayor, Mr Bliss said that before anything could lie r]ono legislation would have to bo obtained The Bill, which was going to be presented to Parliament, wn.s only for tit' citv, but, the Bill may be made a general one.

Councillor K. ff. Clarke asked at, what time would be gel, bis milk under the block system.

Mr Bliss replied that th u Dairymen'." Association was willing to put a limis on ihe time at which a milkman could suiri. on a block.
