A motion of sympathy with Sir Francis Bell, Leader of tho Council, in the death of his eon, Captain W. H. D. Bell, was passed. WAR. LOAN. An amendment to the; War Purposes Loan Bill was received from the House and agreed to, after Sir William HallJones and the Hon J. Barr had protested against Councillors not being afforded an opportunity of giving due consideration to the amendment. Tlie Council adjourned at 3.10 p.m. until next Wednesday, as a. mark of respect to the ln-to Captain Bell. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wednesday, AuGrsT 8. AFTERNOON SITTING. The House met at 2.30 p.m. WAR LOAN. ! An amendment to tho War Purposes Loan Bill was introduced by Governor's message and agreed to. FLOUR. Replying to the Hon D. Buddo, tho ' Prime Minister said that Cabinet was awaro that there was dangor of southern flourmills having to close down owing to the competition between imported wheat and imported flour. Cabinet would deal with tho question during the next few days. WANGANUI HARBOUR. Mr Veitch gave notice of his Intention to introduce the Wanganui Harbour Board Vesting Bill. OVERSEAS MAILS. Replying to Dr Thacker, Sir James Allen said that it was by Imperial direction that notice of overseas mails was not published. CUSTOMS DUTIES. Replying to Mr Jennings, Sir Joseph Ward said that he was having a special report mado in connection with silks and other goods affected by the proposed alteration in the Customs duties. If' any fresh resolution of the House were required in this connection it would date as from Tuesday. LATE CAPTAIN BELL. A motion of sympathy with Sir Francis and Lady Bell, in the death of their son, Captain W. H. D. Bell, was passed, and the House rose.
