A MILLION MEN FOR EUROPE,

The "World's" Washington correspondent says that the new war Budget means that the authorities hope to send a million men abroad within a year, starting immediately. Two additional drafts of 500,000 each will be called up while the first contingents are leaving. (Speaking recently at Birmingham, Alabama, Major-General Leonard Wood declared his belief that the war with Germany would be a long one. and that it might bo necessary to send as mamas 2,000,000 men to the trenches tf France. " The principal thins for us to do here in America." he added, "is to make munitions of war, raise big crops, and train our men well.")
EXPLOSION IN SUBMARINE. Australian and N.Z. Cubic Association and Router. (Received July 26, 2.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 25. The Nary Department announces that five men were killed and three injured by an explosion of gasoline fumes in submarine A 7 at Cavite.
