LAW SOCIETY'S HOLIDAYS.
TO TUB RDJTOB. Sir,-- Through the medium of youT widely read ioniums I would like to ask the. J.'resident of the Canterbury District Law Society whether it is still the intention of tin society's members to keep their offices open on race days, ami itlius deprive their clerks of their customary holidays. The Government has now passed legislation dealing with, the. curtailment of racing, and the.society must now recognise that its action was rather premaitiiro. If tlni members of the society think that by not closing they are greater patriots than their fellow townsmen, or that they are going to stop their clerks from enjoying their usual little gamble, well, they have not got the quantity of good common sense, with which they are credited. It is, a well-known fact that if one. sheep jumps through a gap in the hedgo the whole of the ilock will follow.—l am, etc., QUILL.
