NATIONAL EFFICIENCY.
The Ashburton Board of Advice held a meeting on Tuesday. Mr CJ. Harper presided. It was decided to advise the Commissioner that, the board did not consider it necessary to curtail the number of stock sales during August, September, October and November at present. The Commissioner wrote approving of the following Boards of Trustees for soldiers' farms:-—No. 1 Board, Messrs James Cow, William Morgan and Charles Jaine; No. 2 Board, Messrs James Bruce, Thomas Buckley and John Cairns. The Commissioner forwarded a list of names of persons willing to act as managers or working managers of soldiers' farms.
It was decided to forward the cases of several farmers drawn in recent ballots to the various district committees for a report, also to recommend the issue of exemption certificates on behalf of several cadets. Several complaints were received from employers of Senior Cadets of tho lads having to travel long distances to attend daylight parades. It was decided to draw the' Commissioner's attention to these oascp, and to urge upon him the urgent necessity of making arrangements by which this unnecessary loss of valuable work on the farms may be prevented.
