SUCCESS
'" Mr Alfred E. P. East, of the " Lyttelton Times" Office, has received tho following letter from the Base Records Office, 'Melbourne, concerning his son who enlisted in the Commonwealth ' Forces. Squadron-Quartcrniaster-Ser-geant East is twenty-nine years of age, and was born in the City of tho Plains. The letter says : " I have much pleasure in forwarding hereunder copy or extract from Second Supplement, No. 29890, to the London 4 Gazette,' dated January 2, 1917, relating to the conspicuous services rendered by No. 2992 Squadron-Quarter- , master-Sergeant J. H. East, 4th Divi- . sional Headquarters." MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. •The following, dispatch has been received by the Secretary of State for War from General Sir Douglas Haig, G. 0.8., Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in France: "I havo the honour to submit the name of the undermentioned non-com-missioned officer, serving under nvv command, whose distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty 1 consider deserving of special mention: No. 2992 Squadron Quartermaster-Ser-geant John Henry East." • The above has been promulgated in the Commonwealth of Australia " Gazette " No. 103, of June 29, 1917. ■A ■■ =====
