"THE HAPPY GARRET."
"The Happy Garret,'' a novel by V. Goldie (William Heinemanu, London) is a, curiously interesting, if sometimes sordid, story of a. girl's life in London. Kate Hill sets out in lifo as a. medical student, but she presently gets in tow with an amorous young " waster,''' who introduces her to a Bohemian circle, and then persuades her to set up housekeeping with him, without troubling about the services of paßon or registrar. The story is notable chiefly fruits intimate descriptions of free-and-easy artistic life in London, and of tho very unconventional amusements to which the ones turn when their day's or night s work is done. Hebe Hill is above all inquisitive ; she wants to plumb every experience, and there are not many r,ho has not sampled by the end of this first set o; chapters of her life.
