TO-DAY'S OASES. (Before Mr T. A. B Bailey, S.M.) TWO YEARS AT PAKATOA. Edith Sophia Castle, charged with drunkenness*, was also charged with procuring liquor while prohibited. Sub-Inspector Mullany said tlut it was the iirst breach of the order. The Magistrate convicted the accused all d declared her an habiiMal mebijato. Tho accused asked to be allowed to go to Pakatoa. Ke.steven (.Mr Thomas) proceded against S. C. Thompson (Mr Sar-n-ent) for four claims amounting to £232 10s. . Francis David K est even, registered moneylender, of Christ-church. said that the hills (produced) for which he was suing had been registered at his office. The money had not been paid. The Magistrate (to .Mr Thomas): You cannot, sue for these bills. They "have not. been endorsed. Mr Thorn ac: They were promissory notes, payable at. Ke-tcvcn's registered office. Mi Sargent: I presume No. 4. Chancery Lane, is Mr Kesteven's office. Mr Thomas: I will prove that No. 4, Chancery Lane, is Mr Kesteven s registered office. Mr lvesteven. continuing, said that. Thompson had refused to pay. He had been to witness's office many times about the notes. Burns, who was Thompson's partner, paid the interest on some of the promissory notes. Tho defendant, in the box. .said that Kesteven nevjtr gave him a receipt for any money paid.
