Thp. Otago Education Hoard was today invited by the National Efficiency Beard 'to adopt tho procedure in force in Canada, viz., ''That the school flag bo unfurled and saluted by children on entering school as a means ol : inculcating strong national sentiment in tho minds of hoys and girls; that short lessons on the history of tho Empire and our duties to it should bo prepared for iea«h standard, and that one of these lessons should be given each week." Tho Minister had approved of the recommendations and. expressed the hope that they would l>o favourably received by school authorities throughout tho Dominion. The inspector (Mr Fleming) pointed out that conditions in Canada and New Zealand were very dissimilar owing to tho composition of the population. Schools in Now Zealand had their flags, which were used on all necessary occasions. Mr Brugh said that he never had come across such a mouse brought forth by such a mountain as this matter at a*time when th© (government should bo engaged in thoroughly organising tho country. The letter was merely received.
