KAIAPOI. Tbo Kaiapoi Borough Council mot last night; present—'l he .Mayor (.Mr J. 11. RlacKwou), and Councillors h. B. Evans, T. xl. Leithead, R. D\um, J. \V. Crawshaw, AY. Doubleday, H. M'lntosh, J. Bryden, J. 7» T . Barnard and A. Blakcley. The resignation of tiio firo brigade engineer was accepted, and the appointment of his successor was left to the Fire Prevention Committee. Mr G. Knight's application for the 'owering of a pipe drain in Smith Street, to allow his section to be drained, was referred to the AVorks Committee. The Mount Herbert County Council asked for support of its resolution requesting fho Government to allow hospital boards to borrow for capital expenditure. It was decided to reply that the council favoured the present system. The Lighting Committee reported tb.'.t Mr L. Birks had offerer] to instruct the firo br%fde in the handling of electric wires, also that the only appliances required for the work were rubber snips and one pair of rubber gloves.
