DUTY ON SUGAR.

Thomas Lough moved the reduction of the duty on sugar lo Jd per ]b. He. said that considerable discontent existed regarding the question. The sugar available in l!'l.l() was only Ifi per cent, less than in 1 Ol.'J. hut only 50 per cent reached the consumer. Mr Ronav Law said that the Govern, merit found it, necessary to take over the control of sugar, thus maintaining a uniformity of price longer than was otherwise possible. Tbo difficulty lay not. in getting supplies, but in obtaining transit. The amendment was negatived.
