Tho City Hath Committee has granted a thousand *sing!o bath tickets to the Lady Liverpool Committee, as prizes in connection with Surprise Packet Day, in aid of the fund for comforts for New Zealand soldiers at the front. Mo cost to the council is involved, beyond that, of the/ tickets, and the. committee is of opinion that the gift will bo a good advertisement for the baths. An echo of tho recent late train discussion was heard in the City Council last night, on a motion of a Labour councillor that a letter from the president and secretary of the Waterside Workers' Union should bo read. He said that at the timo of a certain deputation tho Mayor had stated that an invitation to these gentlemen to be present had been ignored. It now appeared that the invitation had never been received. Tho Mayor replied that at tho time of speaking he was not jiware that his invitation, which had been sent by telephone, had not reached its destination. Ho had since apologised to the gentlemen concerned, and he thought the reading of the correspondence was a waste or time. The council decided, on a division, not to read the letter.
