The question seems harmless enough, yet some men to whom it was addressed yesterday "cut. up rough " about it, One Second Division reservist made quite a little speech to two unapprecintive, constables, declaring his resentment that he should be accosted by "gentlemen in blue suits "—this with every suggestion of a sarcastic sneer—when he was taking his relatives to a picture performance. The policemen let the tirade Ml Me •water Mpon a, duck's bade, and then, much to the annoyance of the pleasureseeking reservist, calmly but firmly-in-sisted "upon taking his name and address. Tho people of New- Zealand are indebted to the Christchurch Citizens' Defence Corps for the opportunity they have been given to see moving pictures of the battle of the Ancrc. Tho idea of bringing these pictures to New Zealand was first suggested by the corps in a letter to Sir James Allen in the middle of December. His attention was drawn to the fact that tho Imperial Government was having moving pictures taken at the front. It was suggested, that tho New Zealand rights should be sold to the Government of the Dominion, and that the films should be leased to patriotic associations in the principal centres at a nominal price. It was further suggested that if tho Minister approved tho schemo he should cable to the High Commissioner in London to secure pictures already published and others that might be taken, gir James Allen telegraphed in reply " As suggested in your letter, I have communicated with the High Commissioner regarding securing the New Zeapand rights of the pictures in question" The arrival of the Ancre battle films was the result.
