BILLIARDS.

WELLINGTON. [From Oun Lobhespondent.] WELLINGTON, Friday. ' The semi-finals of the Wellington crystalate cup championship proved exceedingly excitmg, particularly in the game between congdon and Snanks, where, until the last stroke was played, the winner was in doubt. Congdon, the Mastcrton crack, just managed to beat Shanks (Dominion) by 5 points in 500. The game between Owen (Wellington Club) and Dyhrberg (Marat Brothers' Club), although keenly contested, was rather monotonous from a spectator's point of view. The game was won by Owen. The final between Owen (the holder of the championship) and Congdon (exohainpion) attracted one of the largest audiences yet seen at a billiard contest in Wellington, and included several members of Parliament and ladies, i'lav was exceptionally interesting, botfi players at times showing professional form. This game, although in the finish providing rather an easy win for Congdon, should have been a valuable lesson to young and even old players, as it abounded in interesting situations and skilful strategy. For a real sportsmanlike contest, one could not wish for a better competition.
