MAGNESIA FOR DYSPEPTICS.

SPECIALIST RECOMMENDS IT INSTEAD OF DRUGS. " Only those in constant touch with sufferers from indigestion aud dyspepsia can fully realise ihe harm done by the improper use of drugs and artificial digestants," remarked an eminent specialist recently. " Personally I rarely advocate the use of drugs in the treatment of digestive or stomach troubles, L .or in practically every insfcaaco I have proved the underlying cause to be excessive acidity of the stomach and consequent fermentation of the food contents. Therefore, in place of the once widely used drugs I imariably recommend the use of magnesia to neutralise the acidity and stop the food ferment-, jng, and tho excellent results I have obtained during the past three years convince me that there is tio finer treatment for indigestion, dyspepsia, etc., etc. It must, of course, be clearly understood that I do not employ or advise the use of such forms of magnesia as citrates, acetates, sulphates, etc. —these would often do more harm than good, nothing but bisurated magnesia—the form prescribed by physicians—should ever be used to neutralise stomach acids. This is not at all difficult to obtain—in fact, I find that most chemists stock the preparation in tablet form in addition to the ordinary powder. Half a teaspoonful of bisurated magnesia in powder form or tiro compressed tablets taken with a little water after meals will usually be found quite sufficient to instantly neutralise fine acidity and prevent food fermentation, thereby ensuring painless natural digestion for even chronic sufferers." 622
