A return tabled .by tho Minister of Internal Affairs to-day shows that up to December 31, 1915, a total of £1.05''>,24.0 bad been collected by .patriotic societies of New Zealand for various purposes. Of this sum £12,-137 had at the end of the year been spent in relief. £93,435 in equipment and goods purchased for the forces, £473,484 remitted overseas direct or forwarded to thti Internal Aft airs Department for remission overseas and other special purposes', and £25,215 in general expenses, leaving £9Bl ,078 in band. Tho percentage of expenses to collections wms 1.U5. Of the total sum of £1.58(3.2-10 the provinces had contributed as follows: —

The report points out that since tho foregoing figures were made up there have been many special appeals by way of carnivals, art unions and other functions, to which people have, responded with undiminished liberality. From information obtained respiting various activities ; t ;ray ho -safely estimated that Hm patriotic contributions of tlio. people of ?\ow Zealand in cash and goods have now amounted to over two millions of pounds. To funds amounting to £9«1.000 remaining in hand at December 31 there should "be added between £50.000 and £60,000 in transit, giving a total of over one million available for relief and gcnersl purposes at that date. If to this amount is added the amount contributed since December it may he fairly assumed that tb-' unexpended funds at the. jfreso.nt date arc approximately £1.250.000.
