RUSSIAN TRIUMPH.
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON. July 28 (4.10 p.m.). The Russians officially announce that they have captured Brody. (Brody, sisty-two miles east ,of Lembergj is an important town on the railtray to Kovno. Its capture, according ,to recent messages, will render the enemy's positions near Lemberg untenable. The population, according to the latest census, ."e between 18,000 and 19,000, of which two-thirds are Jews. The town is situated near the Prussian frontier, and has been one of the most important commercial centres in Galicia, especially for trade with Russia. However,-since 1879, when its charter as a free commercial city was withdrawn, its trade has greatly diminished. Brody was created a town in 16S1, and /was raised to the rank of a fres commercial city in 1779.)
