-yt SPORTS FIXTURES POSTPONED. After a spell of unseasonably warm and dry weather, heavy rain set in at s.n early hour this morning from the south-west, and continued steadily durine; the morning. Most of the local sports fixtures for this afternoon have been postponed, the indications "tilis mornimr being that the rain would continue all day. AT ASHBURTON. It TVER IN HIGH FI.OOD. [Fuom Ona Correspondent.] ASHBURTON, July 22. A steady downpour of rain set in here early last evening and continued throughout the night. The total fall at nine o'clock this morninc; was l.Ooin. It is still raining heavily and there is no sign of the weather clearing. The Ashhnrton Hirer is running high, hank to hank, and the flood is the biggest seen in the last ten years. The fall general and at midday to-dav it appeared probable that the rain'wouUl continue over the weekend. RAIN STORM AT OTIRA. [From Our Correspondent. 1 ■ . OTIRA, July 21. Heavy rain and wind have raged for the last, rorty-eight hours, causing several slips in the gorge, which were cleared 'parly this morning. The coaches did not leave to-day. owing to a washout on the railway line at Cass. The weather is now clearing up.
