In answer to an inquiry from Mr Payne last week, the Postmaster-Gen-eral announced to-day that a recommendation has been made in the direction of increasing the pay of telephone exchange operators. The "Post" reports that encouraging success has attended the first two disputes heard in Wellington by the Canterbury Conciliation Commissioner (Air J R- Triggs). _ There was a complete agreement in the case of tho noma*! wuUm- employees, a branch of tin- "Wellington Brewers, Bottlers, UoUUMYiishevs. and Aerated Water Employees' Union: and the same result, was achieved in the case of the brewery employees' sevtiuii.
