STRANGE TRAGEDY.
WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH. [Pek Pbess Association.] DUNEDIN, July 21. A distressing fatality is reported at Ravensbourne. Upon returning home at 9.50 last night from Port Chalmers George Anderson, a carpenter, found the house locked up and on effecting an entrance discovered his wifes Thomasina Anderson, aged thirty-six, lying in a passage, apparently having been burned to death. Only a vestige of clothing was left on her. The fire from the burning garments had burned through the oilcloth and also through a board an inch thick where she lay. It is believed that the fatality is a result of mental illness as bank books and gold articles wero found burnt in the fireplace
