IN CURLU GRAVEYARDS. TORN VAULTS INTO DUGOUTS. United Service. (Received July' 20, 9. a.m.) LONDON, July 19. Mr 11. Warner Allen, -with the French, on the Soninio, describes the sacrilege of Germans in making fortresses of the Curlu graveyards, emptying graves and vaults and using them as dugouts. They destroyed and flung out coffins and. corpses, uproot- • ing head-stones and railings for barricades and linking up the whole -with subterranean passages, forming elaborate defence, works, Ml ; of concealed shelters for machine guns whero the Germans, when driven from the village, finally took refuge, compelling the French to concentrate their artillery fire and laying the church in ruins, before they vrera conquered.
