POLAND.
WILLIXG TO TRUST RUSSIA. 9 LONDON, May 4. The speech of M. Sasouof at the opening of the Russian Duma contained the first real affirmation by the Oaar's Government that tho promise of the Grand Duke Nicholas, mad© eighteen months ago, is to be carried out. Figuratively, it marks the latest development in the wooing of Poland that has been going on since the Russian armies withdrew last summer. Since that time the Cinderella of Europe has had, three suitors for her hand, and has experienced some doubts and hesitations as to which she should chooso as her future and final mate. M. Sasonof's declaration, in tho name of Russia, has the .advantage of being the latest and most fervid. Poland's ideal to-day, as always, is complete independence, but if that be impracticable and some half measure of jflitonomy lias to be accepted instead, with the choice of dependence either on Germany or on Russia, we are assured by leading Poles in Switzerland that the instinct of their' people, would bo to place their trust with their fellow-Slavs in Russia.
