TUAHIWI SOLDIERS.

ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED. The Runanga Hall at Tuahiwi was well filled on Wednesday night, when a roll of honour was unveiled. Mr Thomas Green was chairman, and amongst those present were the Mayor and Mayoress of Kaiapoi/Mr and Mrs J. H. Blackwell), Messrs' H. M'lntosh and D. M'lntosh, and Captain E. E. Papprill. An enlarged photograph of H.M.S. New Zealand, presented to Tuahiwi by Captain Halsey, was formally received and was handed to the trustees of the hall. Mr C. Flutoy, on behalf of tho pa, expressed thanks for the gift, and on his motion it was decided to cable Captain Halsey expressing appreciation of his gift and to congratulate tho present commander of tho vessel on the part- the New Zealand had played ill the Jutland naval battle. Mr To Aike then unveiled a roll of honour of those men who had left the pa to serve their King. Ho stated that out of thirty eligible young men, twen-ty-seven had already accepted service. Some had paid the supremo sacrifice. Ho felt sure that tlio men from the district would add distinction to their race and to tho Empire. Tho Mayor of Kaiapoi said that tho roll of honour itself was a credit to Mr Hape Uru, who had designed it. The names and photographs thereon should be an inspiration to tho growing generation. Both Maori and pakeha v.'pre at one in feelings of loving reverence for those who done their part and who never would como back. It behoved those who staved behind to prove worthy of the great tight their fellows v.'ore putting up for them. Mr AY. Uru addressed the Maoris in their native tongue, and a Maori song of sorrow was sung in memory of those soldiers who had fallen, and a song of cheer for those still fighting. During the evening the Kaiapoi concert party supplied an excellent programme, which was much appreciated. The evening closed with the singing of " Rule, Britannia " and the National Anthem.
