PROGRESS AT LYTTELTON. In connection with the persona,! canvassing scheme at Lyttelton, the Mayor (Mr W. Radcliffc) reported at the meeting of the Borough Council last night that the two canvassers engaged were doing well. There were some 711 eligible men on the roll, arid at 327 houses visited 292 men had interviewed. The canvassers had al4> found fifty-four persons whoso narnejs were not on the roll. R ICC AT? TON. At the meeting of the Hiccarton Borough Council last evening a letter was received from the Recruiting Board urging on the council the necessity for men to fill up tho Reinforcements and asking_ councillors to help in every way possible to keep up the quotas. It was decided to reply that the eouncil was nearly through with the canvass of the borough and its report would be sent, in as soon as possible.
