Geoijge Newman, with a lengthy record, pleaded guilty to stealing three gramophone records, valued at 30s, the property of James Smith. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. -':>?: AN ABSCONDER. Geoirgina Perritt, who had been committed, to the Salvation Army Home on/a charge of vagrancy, and who had absconded, was ordered to return to the institution, the Magistrate remarking:- that the call of' Nature was strong and he was not going to be hard on accused. A-LLEGED CRIMINAL ASSAULT. Richard O'Brien, a young .man, who appeared in the dock in khaki, was charged with criminally assaulting a girl- -under the age of sixteen years. Sub-Inspector Mellany said that the accused had* been, brought to the Police Station" that morning by men, who said they caught accused in the public gardens practically in the act.
