CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.

The Christchurch. Presbytery met this morning, the Rev Dr Erwin presiding. •

A resolution of protest against the horrors of tho British prisoners'" camp at Wittenburg, in Germany, was passed. The Rev D. D. Rodger reported that tho Communion roll of the West-'Mel-ton district was not yet completed, and the matter was deferred to the nest meeting. ' The Visitation Commission to the ICnox Church returned a very congratulatory report on tho church and congregation. It commended tho minister, offico bearers and congregation ou the excellent state of affairs, and special rn'aise Avas given Mr Reid for Iris services.

A resolution was passed conveying tho Presbytery's congratulations on tho lines of tho report. A Visitation Commission was appointed for Oxford West. The Mauaia Presbytery wrote relative to tho acceptarrce by tho Rev W. H. Howes of tho call from Rangiora. Tho Moderator said that the induction could not take place conveniently before May N 4. It was agreed that the ceremony should take place on that date at 2.30 p.m. The Rev J. Laisliley to address the minister, tho Watt the people, and the Rev Dr Erwin to conduct the induction.

The Rev A. T. Thompson reported arrangements for the diamond jubilee of St Andrew's Church.

The report was approved. The llov A. D. Tvirklan'd, of Waikari. was granted three months' leave of ahseuce, owing to illness, and the Rev D. D. Rodger was appointed Moderator to the district, in tho meantime.

A lengthy report was received from the Homo Missions Committee. It stated that last year Christchurch contributed £256 4s Gd, und' this year would bo asked to find £460. It was decided that the . Rev J. Pater so n should take the matter in hand, inform each congregation of what was required and report to tho Presbytery.

The Rev Paterson urged the duplex system of giving. So long as they depended unon the chance giving and unorganised willingness of tho congregations thev would be continually in trouble. The system had worked excellently in his own church, where for fourteen months they bad bad no special appeal to tho congregation. An interim repeat from the Sabbath Observance Committee was received. An implication was received for a grant of £-10 per annum for Spreydon in order to enable them to maintain a local agent. After hearing a report from the Rev Thompson on the prospects of the district it was decided to make the grant.
