NOTE ON THE RACING.
GOOD SPORT IN WET WEATHER. (Special to the " Star.") TRENTHAM, April 8. All acceptors for the Jumpers' Flat Handicap >vere saddled up. Backers went for Vkdian, runner-up to Multiply on Thursday. Parewanui, Hurakia and! Queen's P°st showed out prominently to the turn, where the favourite moved up, and, taking charge at the distance, won easily. Hurakia was a poor third. Rain set in while the horses were at the post and kept up, the weather getting cold and wintry. The Hutt. Handicap was a good betting race. Wishful finished up a slightly better favourite than Chillies. Neither were over prominent, Chillies being last away. Taringamutu ran a great race, but failed to concede Hygia 251b. The latter was unplaced in the Tinakori Handicap on the first day. The "Kara qiu stable has a great record as second day performers. Ballyhar was pulled out of the Muritai Handicap, the stable relying ou Heeltap, The latter jumped out smartly and cut out the pace. After going a furlong Martial Air, Franbonnet and Cleft were prominent to the turn, where several others joined in. Heeltap, ridden by Deeley, cam© through at the distance and won by a length and a half. Seadown, who was k good favourite, just got up on the post aud got second money. Montana was favourite for the Autumn Handicap. He ran a good race, but was beaten by Adjutant, who ran it out bettor than expected. Adjutant, Moulu and Purse'filler led at different stages of tko race, and Blackall ran as well as expected. The gallop will do him good for the Great Autumn • at Riccarton. Cease Fire (Field Bnttery-—Truce). one of the High don stable, won the Pacific Handicap with something to spare from Bjorneborg, who only just defeatedHvllus. with Msnelaus close up. Cease Firo did not compete on the previous day. owing to an ace'dent to his rider. B. Deoloy rodo him to-day. Petruchio, 0, full-brother to Winning Way. made his first appearance, but was left at the Post and took no part in the race. Eligiblo never cr-ive his two opponents J a look in in the Gold Cup. leading from end to end. Considering the c;oing the time was satisfactory. Balboa ana Tudigo ran a good race, being placcct last year.
