TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

NEW SPORTS GROUND PAVILION The new pavilion on the Technical College eport's ground, Elisor's Bead, was formally Opened', this afternoon. There was a good attendance of pupils, past and present, and friends, ■among others present being llr G. Dcotfc, Jlr J. H. Howell (director) and Mr J. Butterficld. Tlio pavilion was erected from designs by Mr Roy Saunders, an ex-pupil, and is constructed of rimu. The main room mea|ure3 40ft x 20ft, and the cost of tiio building was £2OO. Mr Howell said that the pavilion had been erected from funds mainly subscribed by the pupils, with a grant from tho Board of Governors of the college, and was almost free from debt. The antarctic weather prevailing recalled the gallant explorer (Sir Ernest Shackleton), who had been the first to subscribe:. to the .adjoining hostel. All their •sympathies were with the gallant explorer, and all would trust that in due tirns Sir Ernest would return to see the, coping-stone put to the work he set rolling in 1911. (Hear, hear.) The pavilion was not complete; it was intended to add another room end a porch by the verandah. When completed tl-s pavilion would be worthy of the college. To Messrs H. Allison and G. Scott the college was greatly indsb'ed, and through their enthusiasm were the hostel, grounds and pavilion secured. He would ask Mr Scott to accept a silver key as a memento of tlio occasion.
