__ The Hon J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, is spending a. busy day in Christchurch to-day. In the" morning he received a deputation on technical education, and in the afternoon visited the Technical College and several primary schools.

A Press Association cablegram from Sydney announces tho death of Mr T. It. Moxbarn, M.L.A. for Paramatta. Mr J. Gaughley, Assistant Director of Education, will leave Christchurch for Wellington on January 21, to begin his now duties on January 24.

Mr A. H. W. Ell. eldest son of Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., Lias enlisted, and will leave Christchuieh with the 12th Reinforcement to-night. The Rev James Aitken, of MosgieJ, has been elected to the charge of St Andrew's, Gisborne, in succession to the late Chaplain-Major Grant, who was killed in action.

Mr J. Harper, Chief Commissioner of the New South Wales Hallways, has come to New Zealand on a health recruiting trip, and is at present in Wellington. Mr W. J. Wilson, of the ;' Lyltelton Times " staff, who lias joined the Twelfth Reinforcements, returned to Christchurch from a visit to Australia to-day. He will leave for the training camp to-morrow evening. . At to-day's meeting of the Lyttolton Harbour Board an application from A. Steven*., signalman at the Heads, now serving at Samoa, for extension of his leave till tiie termination of the war, was granted. Dr T. Burns, who went through the South African war, and who for the past twelve years has been in practice on the West Coast, will take up the appointment of chief medical officer at Samoa.
