POLICE COURT NEWS.

TO-DAY'S CASES. (Before Mr S. Bullook, J.P., and Mr W. Fenner, J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Two female and one male first offenders were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. REMANDED. Herbert Thomas Porteous, alias Haig, thirty-one year? of age, was charged that on December 10 last he obtained from William Baxter, a tailor of Waikari, a suit of clothes valued at £4 IDs, and shirts and underclothing ralued at los, by stating that he had an account of £l.O at tbe-Bank of Australasia and by tendering an order on the manager of tho bank for £5 10s, causing Baxter to act upon it) as if itwere genuine. On the application of Sub-Inspector Hastie accused was remanded till Friday.

OFFENDING MOTORISTS. For driving motor vehicles at excessive speed over city street crossings, fines of 10s and costs were inflicted on the following:—Reginald Adams, Clement G. Andrews, Arthur Chappie, Harold. Greenwood, J. S. Hendy, J. T. Passmore, J. B. Pearson, Frank Restall, Thomas Shearer, William R. Taylor, William Whyte. Albert Green was fined' 20s and costs for a similar offence. CYCLING ON FOOTPATHS. Footpath cyclists were each fined 5s and costs, tho offenders being:—A. W. Brogdeii, F. E. Charles, James Moriss, S. A. M'Dougall, Harry Panuell, Charles Shaw, R, H. Stillwell, David Taylor, James Webb. Lionel Brown was fined 5s without costs. NO LIGHTS.

-For cycling without lights, Charles Ogilvie, John Campbell, John Phillips and D. Mathias were each fined 5s and costs. Mathias was also fined 10s and costs for giving a falso name and address. WANDERING CATTLE. For allowing cattle to Wander, Gladys Mary Hancock was fined 2fe and costs, and Frank Harper and YV. J. Wills each 10s and costs. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT.

William Frith, fifty-one years of age, on remand, was charged with indecent assault on a girl five years of age, at Linwood, on January Accused.was represented by Mr M. Donnelly. Sub-Inspector Hastie said that two little girls were sitting on the gutter edge in Tuam Street, Linwood, on the day in question. Accused came up and sat down beside them. Ho gave them money and, it was alleged, committed an. offence. He was seen by-two'men, who asked him what he was doing. They took accused to was under the influence of- liquor.

After hearing evidence accused was committed for trial to the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed, self in £IOO and two sureties of £SO each or one surety of £IOO.
