After performing the ceremony. amid cheers, Mr Wigram said that it would dive him great pleasure to present a small piece of plate to the society, to be given to the first member at 'the front who put into what he had learned here. The total of forty-eight- names was a great credit to the "society. (Applamo.) Mr G. E. Bilisou announced that it had been learned that one of those on the Roll of Honour, LV Aeland, was on the Marquette when that vessel was torpedoed. He had been six hours in the water, and perhaps what he, had learnt here had been the means of saving his life. (Applause.) Mr Wigram: Perhaps ho has already won the piece of plate. Air F. L. Champness, A. Haines, E. Wood. The following extract from the New Brighton Life Saving Club tells its own" story :-—" We commenced this, the fifth year of club life,, with a decreasing roll, mainly attributable to the magnificent response given by members (upwards of seventy) to the Empire's call to arms. This, therefore, is no matter Jor regret but ono of pride, as our loss has been the Empire's gain. Several of our bravest and best have already attended / The Last Muster/ having given up their lives while lighting for the colours. In memory of those who have fallen, and of those who are fighting in tho 'greatest of wars,' an Honours Roll has been placed within the pavilion containing tho names of all those who havo enlisted for service."
