KIND-HEARTED TURK.
STORY FROM LONESOME PINE. Trooper Morrall, of the Light Horse who has just returned to Australi from' Lonesome Pine, relates an exper: ence which happened to ono of hi mates. The latter was peering through hi loophole one day at the Turkisi trenches, which were not many yard distant, and presently, to his astonish ment, he saw a Turk commence t clamber down the parapet. Hi curiosity overcame his desire to shoo the enemy, and he watched the othe disappear in a ravine near by and re turn to his trench. This performance was repeated nex day, and the Australians determined t< investigate. They crawled round a best they could in the direction o where the Turk used to disappear, an< in the ravine they found a wounde< British Jack Tar lying with his wound bandaged up. and fresh lint near by Overhead the Turk had rigged a bougl of a tree so as to hide the Britisbe "from the sun, and plenty of water wa in. an accessible position. The Jacl Tar told his rescuers how well thi Turk had treated him, and needless t< say thereafter very little rifle fire wa directed towards where the Turk use< to make his daily climb.
