A meeting of tho New Zealand Trottin" Association was held this aiter--2.; present-Messrs P. Sel.g (president). U. W. Kitehmgham. H. J. i aimer/ H. F. NicoU, W. H. Denton and W. J. Hopkins. Apologies for ahsenco were received from Messrs C. *. Mark, W. 0. Garrard and T. T. Ritchie. Mr J. H. Pollock wrote thanking tho members for tho kind appreciation ot liis scrvir.es, and stating that ho would be glad at any time to give tho association any assistance in his power. it was decided that the Hutt Valley Trotting Club should bo asked to mako formal application, ns provided by the Itules of Trotting, for a change of name to Wellington trotting Club. The president stated that several letters had been received in connect ion with tho Tring Park caw. and at Jus suggestion it was decided to hold over consideration until receipt of tho report on tho whole caso from Messrs Garrard and Marie. The president stated that the caso of tho New Brighton Trotting Club was now in a. position to be dealt with. He read the letter sent to the association by the club's auditor, Mr R. 0. Duncan, as well as tho circular which Mr Duncan sent to all members of the club. Mr Solig added that when this correspondence came before the association it ( was decided to write to the club for an \ explanation. In the meantime Mr E. j ! A. Archer, the president of the club, i commenced an action against the aucli- ! tor for damages, which stopped fur- ! ther inquiry for a time. Further correspondence from the club showed that an injunction had been granted to pre-* vent the club front doing.certain things which might have prejud'eed the ends of justice. Though no official information had been received, it bad been stated in tho papers that Mr Archer had withdrawn his case, and now an official communication had been received from tlie club. Mr Denton made a request, on behalf of the New Brighton Trotting Club, that discussion of this matter should be taken in committee. The president reminded Mr Denton ' that, as a member of the club, he could take no part in discussing the case. Mr Denton said he was aware of that, but made tho application on behalf of the club. It was resolved that the discussion should be taken in committee, at the close of the ordinary business, Messrs Denton and Hopkins not voting. Mr A. E. Adams wrote asking for tho refund of his protest deposit fee, forfeited by the Manawatu Trotting Club. It was decided to confirm the action already taken, on the authority of the president, in informing Mr Adams that there was no power under tho rules to refund the deposit Tli Marlborough Trotting Club wrote asking the Association .to appoint an advisory steward for its meeting, and stating that Mr F. T. Pannell had given satisfaction in the position on two previous occasions. It was decided that Mr Pannell was ineligible for appointment, as he was. not on the Association's official list, but th?t Mr C. H. Gorton should be j appointed. j Mr J. Berry was appointed advisory I steward for the North Canterbury and j Oxford Jockey Club's meeting, awl Mr C. H. Piper for the Kaikoura Trotting Club's meeting. (Proceeding.) PATRIOTIC TROTTING CARNIVAL A meeting of the committee of the Onwers' and Breeders' Association was held last night. Tho secretary reported that the NewBrighton Trotting Club had donated £25 towards the prices, and Mr "W. H. Macdougall had given £lO 10s towards the funds. It was decided that the pony races and the tradesmen's races should be trotting races. Letters wore received from the Premier, Sir J. G. Ward, Hon J. Allen, Hon G. W. Russell and Mr O. Louisson, and members of the House of Representatives thanking the association l'or invitations, and expressing the pleasure it would give them to bo present, if official duties would allow them. His Worship the Mayor wrote stating that he would ask the shopkeepers to close at 12.30 on tho occasion of the carnival. The Bed Cross Society wrote thanking the association for the privileges which had been granted it for the day. A sub-committee was formed for the i purpose of waiting on the retail shopkeepers who were open on Saturday, with a view to getting them to close for at least three or four hours. Nominations for the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting, to be held on j Labour Dav. will close to-morrow night J at nine o'clock.
