RACECOURSE COMEDY.
_ PDILED-UP WHEN WINNING. ADELAIDE, October 1. In Smith Australia very few of the racing clubs encourage amateur riding. This is probably because the supporters of racing have good reason to remember some of the exhibitions of horsemanship given in events exclusively for Corinthian riders. However, at the Hunt Club meeting all previous displays were put in the shade by the extraordinary performance of Mr M. O'Connor, who rode Walt?. Time in the Novioo Hunters' Steeplechase. At the end of half a mile Mr O'Connor started to leave the field. He led over the last fence by 100 yards. He was still that distance in front halfway up the straight, and then he began to pull up. By the time he reached tho stewards' stand about half a furlong from tho judge's box his mount was walking, and ho turned right round, presumably to salute the judgo. In the meantime Silver Stole slipped up on the rails and won easily. It was an extraordinary happening, and tho stipendiary stewards showed their disapproval by suspending Mr O'Connor for sis months. It was interesting to bear what his 'backers said.
