THE AUCKLAND ISLANDS.

CHARTS AT FAULT. Captain Catling, who lias just returned from an expedition te the Auckland Islands, has proved beyond question) that even the latest charts of the Auckland Islands arc hopelessly inaccurate, .savs a Bluff correspondent. His explorations located harbours big enough to swing his vessel in that were not shewn at all. and many of the charted indentations and promontories he has proved are quite out of position. There are islands that he has found on the west coast that have never been heard if before, and the coast lines of Adams Island (south of the main island) and of Disappointment Island (on the west) are quite inaccurately mapped. The bight shown on the chart of Disappointment Island is actually at til© south-east corner, instead of the northeast, as mapped. ' Captain Catling also draws attention to the fact that, there is neither boat nor depot On Green Island, which ifi in a most dangerous position to vessel# running into the Auckland. 1 ? from the eastward, and lie considers that instead' iJ two boats being left on Ewing Island, one should be removed to Green: Island, which is a rocky, barren spot (a little over two miles south-east of Ewing Island) j that would spell' starvation for any castaways there.
