PETITIONS CAN'T BE DEALT WITH.
+. [Pkb Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 2. Delegates from the various women's societies interested in reform and rescue work waited upon tbs Hon R. M'Nab, Minister of Justice, to-day, to ask him to present certain petitions to tho House of Representatives. The deputation complained of the frequency of offences against children, and tho inadequacy of the punishment meted out to offenders, and asked that the law should be amended so as to provide substantial mimmum penalties, particularly in the ease of second and third offences. Mr M'Nab expressed sympathy with the object of the deputation, but pointed out that it was impossible for Parliament %o deal with the petitions this session.
