Myers t r<>tn Colonel Parkes, est Auckland, who left Now Zealand in charge of the stationary hospital ami who was suddenly called 11poTi to convert tho hospital under lib charge into a general hospital for tho reception of the NewZealand wounded. Tho colonel, in the course of his letter, states that he is having a very busy time in Cairo, General B'vd, director of medical services of tho forces in Egypt, having decided that their hospital should bo the chief centre in Egypt for tho New Zealand sick and wounded. The building, says the writer, was the Egyptian Army Hospital, but was tal ; en over on behalf of the New Zealand Government and the No, 2 Stationary Hospital was installed there. Within a. lew days of his arrival Colonel Pa-rkos v. a.s instructed to extend his accommodation and equipment to the requirements of a general hospital of 520 beds, which was completed in twenty-four hours by the onctiou in the grounds of large marquees. He remarks that suddenly increasing from 200 to 520 bods was not an easy task, but thanks to the very excellent and complete equipment provided by the ladies of New Zealand, and especially of Auckland, it was readily accomplished. Considering also that the staff provided wits for a stationary hospital, and that a general hospital was nearly threo times tho size, the efforts of those associated with Colonel Partes are deserving of great praise, and he is unstinted in his appreciation of the work of the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of his command, all of whom, he writes, are very keen and enthusiast -o. He states, further, that it is very fine to notice the amount of sympathetic attention bestowed by the orderlies on the wounded as they arrive, and the way in which they cheerfully work early and late.
