On Saturday noxt- a battalion parade of the Citizens' Defence C-orps will bo feeld, ,1 ho niambom of tho different unite failing; in at Cranmc-r Square at 2.30 p.m. A feature of tho parade v,ill be the fact that the men will bo provided with rifles, and it is anticipated there will be a birr response to tho battalion order. Full particulars regarding tho details connected with the parade are posted on the notice hoard | m front of the Citizens' Defence Corps i rooms, Hereford street. | | "Tho Soldiers'' Rest." as tho hoys i love to call the Citizens' Defence Corps [ club room, has boon remarkably well patronised during the past week, and ! it is pleasing to know that the efforts :of the committee are highly «p- ---| preciated by thoso who take advantage !of the accommodation provided. Yesj terday the room looked particularly I cheery, the large bowls and vases of , bright flowers giving it quite a, festive I appearance. | In connection with tlie rooiu. it may be mentioned that its, miniature picture ! gallery is full of interest, as on the i walls aro to bo seen photographs of many celebrities of tho day. One of the latest additions is an oil painting of his Majesty King George, v., and among; others to bo seen are lino photographs of the late Lord Roberts, Gene- ! rals Kitchener, French and Tan Hamilton, Admirals Jellicoe and Beattio, arid other famous fighters for upholding the supremacy of the Empire at the present time. Tho committee would be pleased with a. gift of a ! photograph of General J off re, should any generous donor have one at his disposal. | Recruiting has not been too brisk | during the past wee&, although a I goodly number of men have enlisted, iAs it has now been officially notified , that the next Reinforcements will go into camp about October 20, it is fully ! anticipated that during the next few ! days there will be a rush of applica- | ticins. There are plenty of men available, and a glimpse at. the posters on | the tram cafs should' surely be an in- ! centive to waverers to make up their ! minds as to which direction their duty I calls them. ! *«• j The various units have afl held 'their usual parades this week, and at- ; tendances generally have shown marked improvement. This is likely to be the general order - through the Kinmner i months, and _gocd solid work may be I anticipated. * % i -y By courtesy of the City unit, a foam from the Lin wood unit had a practice shoot on the Chester Street range. Private Earnshaw put on the coveted " possible " of "0 this being the second occasion on which this score has been recorded on tho range. Private Bevan, using the small bull's-eye target, also scored 70, placing two "possibles" to the credit of the Linwood team on this range in one evening. Not bad going at all! Tho following were the scores registered:—Earnshaw 70, Bevan 70, Pinwell 69. Rutland 67, Lightfoot 66, Bridgman 66. Caldow 65, Lock 61, Rountreo 61, and Aiken 60. The members desire to thank the Citv unit for placing the rango at their disposal. • • 1 » Posted outside the O.D.C, rooms is the following announcement-:—" Notice —Wanted, jobs cf any kind for men who hare, enlisted but have to wait until tbey are called upon to go into; camp about October 20. Linwood Park. \ # Captain A. C. Maxwell, the officer commanding the Linwood. Unit, is one of the most ardont enthusiasts in tho corps. Tliis was fully recognised by the members of his unit- at the annual meeting, who the work done by the popular offi'-er was referred to in appreeiatka terms by several members, whore remarks were warmly applauded by thoeo present. The compliments were- well deserved and honestly earned. *»* The .annual meeting of the Linwoad Unit wa,«v well attended, and much interest was taken in the proceedings. Captain A. C. Maxwell presided. The various reports presented were of amost satisi'actoiy nature, and. several matters oi: interest, to the unit, were fully disrussed. Private A. E.
