Air A. Kaye returned from the north to-day. Mr W. F. M. Buckley arrived from the north this morning. Mr J. W. 000 Barnes arrived from Wel lin gkt u to-day. The Rev Rev J. 11. Rogers and Rev Percy Knight arrived from Wellington this morning Mr G. W. O. Moon, who ha.s been in charge of the Christehnrch branch of tlio «New Zealand Tourist Department during the last nine years, left for D'tuiedin by the second express to-day, to take over control of the branch there. At Lyttelton yesterday afternoon Mr Cyras J. R. Widiams. secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, presorted ;i former member of the staff, Corporal Albert Stanley, of the beventh Reinforcements Artillery, with a pair of binoculars. Mr Williams complimented Corporal Stanley on his decision to serve the Empire abroad, and on behalf of tho board wished him every success and a safe return. Mrs Margaret Barlow, of the staff of the Gisborne Public School, has received r. cablegram from the Base Records Office, stating that her son, Private Theodore Barlow, had been discharged from hospital, Alexandria, convalescent. Private Barlow was a courier, and went away as a motorcyclist with the Auckland Hauraki Rifles with the main body, taking part in the historical landing at tho .Dardanelles. He is an old Christehnrch boy. and a nephew of Mrs Harper, Bealev Street. Private Albert Bines, of the Otago Battalion, reported wounded to-day, was bovn in Stunner twenty-three years ago and was educated at the Sumner school. He was a well-known runner. {laving been, very successful in various parts of Canterbury. He was a member of the Sumner Brass Band and also of the Sin liner Football Club. About four years itgo he won several races as a member of the Sumner Rowing Club. Up to the time of leaving with the Fourth Reinforcements Private Hines had been employed on Mr J. Massey ,s farm at Rakanui. Mr H. F. Norman, senior overseer to tho Public Works Department, will retire to-day on superannuation. after thirty-six years and four months' service with the Department. For twenrveight years Mr 'Norman was overseer for Otago and Southland and for the past six years he has filled the position of senior overseer to the Canterbury district. His retirement will date from December 31, but Mr Norman 3ia,s been granted three months' leave of absence on full pay. commencing from to-day. Yesterday afternoon ho* was the recipient of a wallet and contents from the staff of the Public Works Workshop, the presentation being made by the foreman, Mr F. Flindle. Chaplain-Captain W. Grigg, Meihodist minister at Leestori. who ha.s volunteered and. been accepted for service at; the front. has received a telegram requesting him to report himself Unduly in Wellington early next mont h.
