THE POLICY OF BRITAIN.
t" SIR E. GREY'S STATEMENT. " By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. 5 j (Received September 29, 2 p.m.) '_ LONDON, September 28. Sir Edward Grey, in the House of b Commons, said that not only was there 3 no hostility between Great Britain and - Bulgaria, but there was traditional t sympathy with the Bulgarian people, 3 and so long as Bulgaria did not side | with- Britain's enemies there was no b question of Britain using influence or - hostile force against Bulgaria. If Bulgaria's mobilisation were the result of * an aggressive attituae, we were pre- " pared to give cur friends in the Balkans all the support in our power, in the manner most welcome to them, in concert with our Allies, and without reserve or qualification. These were also the views of our Allies. Our policy had been to secure an agreement among the Balkan States, ensuring a brilliant future and independence, based on the territorial and political union of kindred nationalities. (Cheers.) fc •'Germany's policy, on the other r Kand, had been to create for her own purpose disunion and war in the Balti kans. She had used Austria to precin pitate a European war, with the result 7 that the Austrian empire was cornel pletely subordinated Turkish interests i- would have been preserved if she had remained neutral, but she was forced by Germany into the war to realise a Gorman aspirations from Berlin to Bag- '" dad. In the same way it would only I be the German policy to use Bulgaria t with the inevitable result that Bul- '. garia would bo subordinated; and, 1- though promised territoriaJ gains, would lose her independence."' g .
