ST. ALBANS ANDJAPANUI UNIT The annual meeting of the St Albans ii nd Papa.au: unit of the Citizens' Defence Corfia was held last night in tho T{u«-by Street Schoo'rooin, there being iin enthusiastic gathering of about P2O members. Tho report oppressed groat pleasure that the unit bad given groat assistance to the general work taken np by the main body. Tho unit itself was composed of 340 men. but it has dwindled dowu to a parade muster of only about fifty, and it was considered that St Albans could do better than this. The captain had given his time and energy to the corps, and besides ordinary parades, had held classes on Monday evenings for non-coms., and the work was so satisfactory that some of the members had received appointments in the Territorials. A good number of the men had gone to the front, and some had laid (Town their lives in Gftllipou. Parades had been held every Tuesday evening at Carlton Bridge until the winter, and then evory second and fourth' Tuesday. Those members who had cone through the drudgery and work Vero to be thanked for g.nng up their work and homo ties for this iittle service. The Methodist Church authorities had kindly given the use of the schoolroom frea of charge. The citv unit had also given tho use of their ride range on Wednesday evenings. The St Albans School also had given the use of their range, provided that it was done up, and the work had hern carried out. at a cost of £O.
