LAUNCH RACE.
MISHAP TO DISTURBER. [Pwt Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 24. The iirei heat in the motor-boat championship race between the Fleetwing (Auckland) and the Disturber (Christchiireh) w-as won by the Fleetwing in lOrain 23scc, tho Disturber taking lOmin 57sec. When the two boats turned out for tlio second round, the course was conj sidorably crowded by yachts and launches, with the result that, ar> the Fleetwing was manoeuvring for position, she apparently had to turn suddenly to avoid' a yacht-, and ran full tilt into the stern of the Disturber, which was not under way. For some few seconds the sneetators were under the impression that tho southern boat would £*o down, but Curtis managed to get the motor started, and dashed off at full speed up the harbour, npnarently with the intention of beaching:* tho damaged' craft. The extent of tho damage has not yet been ascertained.
