ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY.^ The Sunuier branch of the Royal Life Saving Society sent a deputation, consisting of Messrs A. Allender and J. Miller (.honorary secretary)> to wait upon the Head Centre committee at their meeting which was held last Thursd'av evening at tlie Municipal Baths, Christchnroh.. the object being t-o make an appeal for financial assistance. Tl"? deputation explained that the Sumner branch had lost, their best members, chiefly owing to the war. In addition to .this, the season had not been a- favourable one, as the sumrnei had .been a cold one. The Head Centre committee*, after discussing the matter for some time, decided to gjaut the Sumner branch a sum of £ls. BANK HOLIDAY. Last Monday being bunk holiday, e verv largo crowd took advantage of the perfect weather to visit Sumner. At fairly early hour the.trams were well filled, "and by midday there was a record gathering ol pleasure-seekers. In the evening the launches which had been competing at the Port Levy regatta came in over the bar. Although there we,re a fair number of spectators to see them pass. there was little excitement. as in previous years, tho bar boil! •X perfectly calm and in good order for crossing.
